Diantie's Daily Quote - "Flowers are happy..."

It is starting off to be a nice sunshine day but it will get colder later. So to all the trick or treaters, come out early for your candy. The color for the lights on the Empire State Building tonight are again white, black and orange for Halloween.

Today's quote is "Flowers are happy things." Author P.G. Wodehouse.

A short, simple and to the point quote. Yes, we all like flowers and can't help admiring them when and wherever we see them. Flowers are used for many purposes. In my religion, flowers are used as an offering.

About the candy, yes, we bought the candy yesterday but did not have much of a choice so we had to settle for what was in store. The little bags are already made and awaiting the takers.

Diantie's Daily Quote - "We are made wise."

Sunshine, a little chill but otherwise it appears to be a nice day. Last night I saw on TV that the Empire State Building was indeed lighted up green and the weather person raised the question as why it was lighted up that color. Tonight and tomorrow night the colors are orange, black and white for halloween.

Today's quote is "We are made wise not by the recollection of our past but by the responsibility for our future." Author George Bernard Shaw.

Yes, I totally agree. As an accountant, I can't help tooting "financial responsibility" and I hold myself accountable to this standard too!

No candy for halloween has been bought so it is first on the list of "to do". Even thought we don't get dressed up for halloween, we make sure the kids have plenty of candy when they come "trick or treating".

Diantie's Daily Quote - "We are shaped..."

Yet another cloudy start to the day with no sighting of the Sun. No blobs of clouds passing over the Empire State Building; just dark clouds appearing as "still life". The color for the lights tonight is green.

Today's quote is "We are shaped and fashioned by what we love." Author Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

Interesting perspective. Don't we all love to see people in action who are passionate about what they do? It is amazing to watch. You can immediately tell the people who enjoy what they do versus the people that don't. "Fashioned" is a perfect word for those in that industry. These people are unique and find a way to distinguish themselves with something as simple as one piece of an accessory.

Yes, I would spend money to get dressed up for a charity event. And yes, I also give my money to charity. Yesterday I won a little prize from a raffle when I donated money to a charity. Working for charity is what I love to do!

Diantie's Daily Quote - "Motivation is what..."

I have been glancing out and up at the sky for the past 20 minutes and there is this batch of clouds in small blobs passing over the Empire State Building. The scene looks like wallpaper. And the Sun is fighting to pierce its way through the clouds but it seems that the clouds are winning for now. The color for the lights tonight is blue.

Today's quote is "Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going." Author Jim Ryun.

Talking about habit - how many people get into their cars, pull out of the driveway, and head towards their daily routine path but ... on a weekend? Guilty! Yes, many times, I should be headed in one direction and ended up driving my routine path because of habit. When I realize I am heading in the wrong direction, I turn to my sister and asked why she did not stop me.

Motivation is great and wonderful and I'm an avid believer in it!

Diantie's Daily Quote - "It is a great ability..."

It is 1.45pm in NYC right now, otherwise known as early afternoon. The weather has taken several turns for the day so far. First it was a light drizzle, then sunshine with some patches of blue skies, now it is dark clouds passing over the Empire State Building. The color of lights for tonight is again white.

Today's quote is "It is a great ability to be able to conceal one's ability." Author Francois de La Rochefoucauld.

Yes, that's true; it is a great ability. At times it is necessary not to conceal one's ability. Whenever someone gets ill on a plane, a call goes out for a Doctor. There are times when people with special skills don't want to be bothered so they try to conceal themselves in public. But at the end of the day, when help is needed, we all jump in.

Diantie's Daily Quote - "Balance, peace, and joy..."

It is interesting that when I write this blog in the morning, there always seemed to be clouds hoovering over the Empire State Building. Later in the day, the clouds usually disappear. Today is no different. No sighting of the Sun. The color for the lights tonight is again white.

Today's quote is "Balance, peace, and joy are the fruit of a successful life. It starts with recognizing your talents and finding ways to serve others by using them." Author Thomas Kinkade.

Nice quote and quite true. We hear it all the time "balance life" but most of us don't have one. The many activities in our lives cause us to focus on what is important at that point in time while other things are neglected. Hip Hip Hooray to those who have a balance life. We all want one.

Today the tally for the blogs written is 201. Wow! I am more than half way there. I have to start planning my next challenge!

Diantie's Daily Quote - "I only go out..."

White clouds are passing over the Empire State Building while the Sun has already passed by and started its journey around the Earth. The colors for the lights tonight through Wednesday are white.

Today's quote is " I only go out to get me a fresh appetite for being alone." Author Lord Byron.

Wow! We all know people who would rather be alone and we also know people that cannot be alone. Some people need to have friends around them all the time and others don't.

Depending on the task at hand, I like my "Me Only Time". I also like to be around people too. Last week I was telling stories and laughing my head off about things that had happen to me. I was even more entertained when the guys I was talking to started telling their stories. Human interaction is great! This goes to show that we have different appetites at different times.

Diantie's Daily Quote - " We ten to forget..."

Nice day today and so will be most of the week. Halloween is almost here and no candy has been bought as yet. The colors of the light on the Empire State Building will be purple and white.

Today's quote is "Life is a song - sing it. Life is a game - play it. Life is a challenge - meet it. Life is a dream - realize it. Life is a sacrifice - offer it. Life is love - enjoy it." Author Sai Baba.

Well said and definitely words to think about. Lots of things to get done now.

Diantie's Daily Quote - "It is only possible..."

According to the weather report, it should be a nice weekend weather wise and this nice weather will continue into next week. The color for the lights of the Empire State Building for tonight is again red.

Today's quote is "It is only possible to live happily ever after on a day to day basis." Author Margaret Bonnano.

Very true. Can't add much to that. Yesterday I met a celebrity, so yes, I did enjoy yesterday. More to come about this later!

Enjoy your today to the fullest. I plan to do that too!

Diantie's Daily Quote - "You must be a lotus..."

The Sun in my eyes is what's happening right now as I try to write this blog. The skies are definitely blue and I can't even look up at the Empire State Building as the Sun is too over powering. The colors for the lights tonight are Red in honor of "Reading".

Today's quote is "You must be a lotus, unfolding its petals when the sun rises in the sky, unaffected by the slush where it is born or even the water which sustains it!" Author Sai Baba.

When it comes to principles and values, absolutely, be unaffected by what else is happening. The environment we live in is constantly changing and it is not smart to be a flower and ignore what's happening around you especially injustices.

Diantie's Daily Quote - "Being powerful is ..."

A beautiful scene is what appears in the skies over the Empire State Building. A few passing clouds and sunshine all contribute to the nice blue skies. The color of the lights on the Empire State Building for tonight are yellow.

Today's quote is "Being powerful is like being a lady. If you have to tell people you are, you aren't. " Author Margaret Thatcher.

An interesting perspective about being powerful and being a lady. Yes, I have to agree with the quote.

Diantie's Daily Quote - "I think that the ..."

Looking out and up at the Empire State Building, my sightings are white clouds drifting across the skies and a slight reflection of the Sun onto the surrounding buildings. There is also a trail of smoke, which looks like a wiggly tail, from a plane soaring its way up into the skies. The color for lights tonight is again white.

Today's quote is "I think that the good and the great are only separated by the willingness to sacrifice." Author Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Well said. We all know people that are not willing to make sacrifices in order to accomplish goals in life. Many of us have made great sacrifices to get what we want and need. Yesterday I was talking to my college classmate about the sacrifices we made when we attended college. I recall she bringing her young daughter to school one day. Looking back at the challenges we faced, we both felt they were necessary that is why we can survive in this tough economy.

While neither of us consider ourselves great, we both know we have accomplished a lot through the sacrifices that we made.

Diantie's Daily Quote - "Don't wait around..."

An hour ago the view from my window of what's happening in skies would have been dark clouds above the Empire State Building. But now the Sun has taken control and the view is nice blue skies. What a difference an hour makes! The color for the lights are again white.

Today's quote is "Don't wait around for other people to be happy for you. Any happiness you get you've got to make yourself." Author Alice Walker.

My quotes this past weekend were also about happiness. Yes, it is true that you should not wait for people to be happy for you. It is a nice feeling to know that people are happy for you but don't count on it all the time!

Monday, October 18, 2010

Diantie's Daily Quote - "Opinions are made..."

Sunshine, clouds and a trail of smoke from a passing airplane are all the things being seen as I look out at the Empire State Building. Again the color for the lights are white.

Today's quote is "Opinions are made to be changed - or how is truth to be got at?." Author Lord Byron.

Opinions, yes we all have them, and yes, we do change them as well. But changing your opinion to get to the truth seems a little puzzling to me. Maybe because the person who is changing his/her opinion did not know what the truth was in the first place. Interesting!

Diantie's Daily Quote - "Most folks are about..."

Absolutely beautiful day today. Sunshine and a slight touch of the breeze. The color for the Empire State Building is white but I am certain that I saw white and blue lights last night on TV.

Today's quote is "Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be." Author Lincoln.

Yes, that's true. As Groucho Marx said - "I have just one day, today, and I am going to be happy in it".

So back to those of us that are happy. I joined the ten thousand plus walkers this morning at Jones Beach for the American Cancer Society's "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" walk. It was great to do it and it was my first time and I hope to do it again next year provided the weather is nice.

Saturday, October 16, 2010

Diantie's Daily Quote - "If you are to be happy..."

It's sure windy out there and the weather prediction was right on target. It is also expected to be a sunshine day. The color for the Empire State Building is again white.

Today's quote is "If you are to be happy at all, you must be happy - period! Not happy "because of"." Author Maxwell Maltz.

Well said! My view is that you are responsible for your own happiness as mentioned before.

You have today - be happy in it.

Diantie's Daily Quote - "I want to work..."

Yes, it is another day of of clouds passing above the Empire State Building and the ferocious Sun is piercing its way through the clouds to control the skies. The colors for tonight are again white.

Today's quote is " I want to work with great people. Great people really make you better." Author Dennis Quaid.

Yes, I believe that is a very true statement. And I am glad he said "I want to work with..". It is hard "to work for" as opposed to "work with" great people. I am sure everyone out there have his/her own stories to tell about "working with" and "working for".

I have to get a digital camera to take pictures of the way the skies change during the few minutes as I write this blog. It is amazing!

Thursday, October 14, 2010

Diantie's Daily Quote - "Good judgment comes..."

It's nice to know that I am not alone in staring up at the sky. Right now as I write this blog, there are a few clouds passing above the Empire State Building and that wonderful reflection of the Sun I wrote about a few weeks ago is happening again. The weather prediction is rain for later today. The colors for tonight are again white.

Today's quote is "Good judgment comes from experience, and often experience comes from bad judgment." Author Rita Mae Brown.

That's why many times we seek out experienced people for advice about certain issues. Those people may have already made those "bad judgment" calls so we can learn from their errors. Great quote!

So back to staring up in the sky. Yesterday in NYC in the Chelsea area, there were sightings of mysterious objects in the sky. As reported in NY Post, Tim Powell said it was "the most bizarre thing I have ever seen." "I saw five or six light shining in the sky. There was no way that thing was a balloon" said Peter Bryant.

What was it? Don't know. But yesterday evening I was walking along seventh avenue toward that area and I saw this helicopter hoovering above. That caught my attention!

Wednesday, October 13, 2010

Diantie's Daily Quote - "Set your goals high..."

Yet another busy day today! Blue skies and no clouds around the Empire State Building. The color for tonight is again white.

Today's quote is "Set your goals high, and don't stop till you get there." Author Bo Jackson.

Well said. Speaking of goals, I have lots of them that I am slowly working on.

So who has not yet tuned in for an update as to how the rescue mission is going for the miners in Chile? Last night I stayed up beyond midnight to watch the efforts and it is truly amazing. My sister stayed up with me and we were both busy analyzing the situation and the mechanisms that were in play. Again amazing work and brains too.

Tuesday, October 12, 2010

Diantie's Daily Quote - "Nobody got anywhere..."

My day is almost over and I am now getting to this blog. The skies are cloudy and there is no sight of the Sun anywhere near the Empire State Building. The color for tonight is white.

Today's quote is "Nobody got anywhere in the world by simply being content." Author Louis L'Amour.

Very true! It's wonderful to be adventurous and it's great to strive for other and better ways to do things. Yesterday was Columbus Day and he was definitely set on exploration. Contentment is good for certain areas of our lives and it helps us to be happy.

Monday, October 11, 2010

Diantie's Daily Quote - "In the end..."

Now the Sun is behind the Empire State Building and its beams are piercing through the clouds. In a few minutes, the Sun will definitely rise above the clouds and show its face. The colors that the Empire State Building will be lighted up in tonight are red, white and green for Columbus Day.

Today's quote is "In the end, it's not the years in your life that counts. It's the life in your years." Author Abraham Lincoln.

Well said. My two cents is that if I live to 70, I hope to have as much much energy as some of the people I know today who have attained that age. At that point for me, it would be the life in my years.

Sunday, October 10, 2010

Diantie's Daily Quote - "Being a woman..."

Sunday morning is here and still lots of things to do. Sleep late was definitely on the "to do list".
The colors of the lights on the Empire State Building is still the same as Friday; they will be chnaged tomorrow.

Today's quote is "Being a woman is a terribly difficult task since it consists principally in dealing with men." Author Joseph Conrad.

Wow! Yes it is a difficult task but when there is no choice, the smart thing to do is try to get along even though you have your own prejudices.

Some women may argue that it is just as difficult to deal with women. Think "The Devil Wears Prada". Lots of women out there can definitely relate to this.

Have a nice day.

Diantie's Daily Quote - "The only gift..."

Saturday, the weekend, and sleeping late are some of the things we look forward to. The weather forecast is that it is expected to be a nice day. No driving out to the Hamptons for me! By the way, even though there is no sighting of the Empire State Building on weekends, it will be lighted up in the same colors as last night.

Today's quote is "The only gift is a portion of thyself." Author Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Most of us do this all the time. When we volunteer to help someone or a charity we are giving a portion of ourselves. It is easy to give to money, but giving of yourself is much harder. Ask any millionaire out there how he/she handles this issue when faced with it?

Plans for today - a few errands to run; get some exercise; send e-mails to my friends; and yes, there maybe some time to finish reading a book.

Friday, October 8, 2010

Diantie's Daily Quote - "Motivation is simple...."

Sunglasses may be required given all those sun rays that are beaming down at my desk and also into my eyes. Yes, I can't look up at the Empire State Building as the Sun is having its say. It's amazing how the weather took a complete turn yesterday from the cloudy skies and tiny rain drops to a beautiful sunshine day. I forgot that on the news at night, sometimes the weather person shows a picture of the Empire State Building and talks about the occasion it's lighted up for. Maybe I should start doing that too. So here goes - tonight through Sunday night the colors will be orange, yellow and red for the 15th anniversary of Publicolor day.

Today's quote is "Motivation is simple. You eliminate those who are not motivated." Author Lou Holtz.

Not much I can add to that except maybe try a little encouragement to get the person motivated. Yes, I have a story to tell. I may have mentioned this before, but years ago I volunteered to be a counselor for some high school students. We were staying at Hofstra University beginning on a Saturday. On Monday morning just as the bus was about to pull out to take us on a field trip, one the girls decided she wanted to go home. I told her to give the program a chance and go on the trip then let me know at the end of the day how she felt. You guess right! She decided to stay! Various games were played and she was on the winning team. Naturally, at the end of the program, I asked if she was happy that she stayed and she said yes. I met her mother who told me she was shy but pleased that her daughter stayed for the entire program.

Moral of the story - give a little encouragement!

Diantie's Daily Quote - "There's no secret..."

Little drops of rain; cloudy skies; a little chill. These are some of the reminders that Fall is here. In the Fall, I actually like to drive on the highway when the Sun is shining and leaves are turning brown and there is just a slight chill in the air. Empire State Building is in full sight and it seems like the Sun is fighting to push the clouds away. Who shall win - to be determined.

Today's quote is "There's no secret about success. Did you ever know a successful man who didn't tell you about it?" Author Kin Hubbard.

Very true. Successful people talk about their journey and the trials and tribulations they experienced. Some success stories are similar and others are quite unique.

My success story is staying employed for most of my life!

Diantie's Daily Quote - "No matter how far..."

Don't know the weather forecast for today but right now clouds are passing above the Empire State Building but I also happen to see signs of blue sky and guess what? Now it's reflections of the Sun so I guess I can conclude that it is looking to be a nice day!

Today's quote is "No matter how far you have gone on a wrong road, turn back." Turkish Proverb.

I love this quote. Actually that happen to me last weekend when I took that drive out to the Hamptons. I got a little confuse when I was driving so I turned around, went down another road and quickly realized I was definitely going in wrong direction. Yes, I turned around and saw a car pulled over on the side of the road. I concluded that we were all headed to the same place so I asked. And yes, we were all going to the Hamptons marathon. The nice couple got their bearings together and I followed behind.

As the runners completed their course, I spotted the couple walking by and I quickly went over and thanked them for guiding me to my destination. Now what are the odds; hundreds of people participating in this marathon and I saw the couple again.

This is just one example of turning back. The key is to recognize and acknowledge that you are headed in the wrong direction. The best decision is to turn back!

Diantie's Daily Quote - "We may encounter..."

It's an overcast day here in New York City and there is a vague sighting of the Empire State Building. On a few occasions, I get to see the skyscraper lighted up at night. It's a beautiful sight.

Today's quote is "We may encounter defeat but we must not be defeated." Author Maya Angelou.

We all encounter defeat and most us get back up on our feet and try again. And yes, sometimes we have to accept that we were defeated.

My two cents is to keep trying at something until you succeed! Especially if what you are trying to achieve is achievable!

Monday, October 4, 2010

Diantie's Daily Quote - "Follow your instincts..."

What does weather has in store for NYC? Right now clouds are passing over the Empire State Building and it was raining earlier. Let's hope for a fair day.

Today's quote is "Follow your instincts - you never know if your ideas will work out unless you try them." Author Lulu Guinness.

Yes, that's definitely true for most of us as we do not have a crystal ball to tell us what the future holds. Yes, I have a few ideas that I will put to the test!

Sunday, October 3, 2010

Diantie's Daily Quote - "Insist on yourself...."

Another slightly chilly morning. In a few minutes it will be time to get outside and get all errands done which were set aside from yesterday. No venturing out to the Hamptons today!

Today's quote is "Insist on yourself. Never imitate." Author Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Early last week someone gave me a quote with the same advice. And it is interesting because that person recognized that I am different so the quote was positive reinforcement.

What do you all think about these articles titled "Who wore it best?" I try not to be caught in who wore it best. Many years ago I had this plaid grey suit that I wore to work. When a new attorney joined the firm, she had the same suit and yes, we all noticed. The nice thing about this is that we both never wore it on the same day.

Saturday, October 2, 2010

Diantie's Daily Quote - "If music be the ..."

The day is almost over and what a day it was! A little bit cold, then sunshine and now back to the chill.

Today's quote is "If music be the fool of love; play on..." Author Shakespeare from Twelfth Night.

What I did not say in my first few sentences is that my day actually started at 3.30 am this morning. Why? I drove out to East Hampton to volunteer for the American Cancer Society at the Hamptons Marathon. So if you are a runner with ACS, chances are, we saw each other at the check-in or check-out.

So what does music have to do with all this? There was a DJ playing the music to entertain us and he did a fabulous job. While I was there, I thought about what it would have been like without the music and I envision this hot miserable day. Even though I was on my feet for almost 8 hours, I felt fine and didn't have a complaint!

My other good deed for the day? I went over and thanked the DJ for the wonderful music which helped make my day a good one.

And yes, I thanked the runners as well for raising thousands of dollars for ACS.

Diantie's Daily Quote - "Write to be ..."

Once more the New York City areas has been drenched with rain. It is still raining out there but the optimistic person in me says that the rain will probably stop by the evening; or should I say, I hope it stop by the evening. Believe it not, I can actually see the Empire State Building but very faintly as the clouds pass by.

Today's quote is "Write to be understood, speak to be heard, read to grow." Author Lawrence Clark Powell.

It is interesting that this is the "Quote of the day". Yesterday my co-worker and I were talking about writing and speaking so that a ten year old can understand. I try to write using simple words and sometimes it is hard to form simple sentences. Guess that means I am not a writer but I can tell stories!
