Diantie's Daily Quote - "The secret of life..."

Recently I meet someone who asked me where I went to school and what was my major. I named the college and said my major was accounting. Next question was what do I do? My response was I am an accountant.

Today's quote is "The secret of life is not to do what you like but to like what you do". Author unknown.

The person then pointed out that it is unusually to find someone who majored in a specific field and also work in that field.

My answer to that was accounting is the only thing I know how to do and I like what I do. So I guess this means that I have discovered the secret of life!

Diantie's Daily Quote - "You have to have..."

How can you tell a person is confident in him/herself? That would be the person that usually captures every one's attention when he/she walks into a room. It's the person that will stand up and ask a question with a room full of strangers present.

Today's quote is "You have to have confidence in your ability, and then be tough enough to follow through". Author Rosalynn Carter.

This is a great quote for entrepreneurs because if you are not confident in your ability, then no will be confident in you. Tough, absolutely a necessity. Setting boundaries is not easy, but you have to do it otherwise people will walk all over you.

Does confidence guarantee success? Quite the opposite! What it does for you is to give you courage to keep going when things are rough.

Diantie's Daily Quotes - "We don't have eternity..."

How many people feel that they have all the time in the world to get things done? Some people do and that's great! Depending on the task at hand, most of us don't have time to spare.

Today's quote is "We don't have eternity to realize our dreams - only the time we are here". Author Susan L Taylor.

Even though most of us do not like deadlines attached to our dreams, we still need to remember that our time on earth is limited. If we want to get the most out of our time here, then we have no time to waste and lots to do.

Setting little goals with a realistic time line helps us along the way to accomplishing our dreams.

Diantie's Daily Quote - "Though love be deeper..."

More friendship quotes!

Today's quote is "Though love be deeper, friendship is more wide". Author Corinne Roosevelt Robinson.

Yes, friendship has to be wide because we can only love so many people deep even though we may have big hearts.

We all need friends and a wide array of them. Don't limit yourself!

Diantie's Daily Quote - "Friendship doubles our..."

Remember that check list that I mentioned some people walk around with before they decided whether or not to be friends with you? Well, that list was put into action at a recent event I attended. A guest told me something had happen to her at the event (it was not pleasant) and I could not believe how on target I was about my list. Amazing but it's true.

Today's quote is "Friendship doubles our joy and divides our grief". Swedish proverb.

We use the saying "the more the merrier" from time to time especially when there is a task that needs to be done. Yes, friends do doubles our joy. What about our grief? Do we feel better when we let others know of our grief. Actually this is time that we want the world of friends to help us ease the burden that we are carrying.

We all need friendliness in our lives so be nice to someone today!

Diantie's Daily Quote - "Give and take..."

What are some ways we can let people know that we don't want to be their friend? One way is to be polite to them when you are in contact with them and don't give the person any false hopes.

Today's quote is "Give and take makes good friends". Scottish Proverb.

So, do we agree with this quote? For the most part, some of us will agree. Here it comes! Yes, we end our friendship with people when they take more from the relationship than they give. Why? Because we all like a sense of balance.

Most of us have been or are in friendships where we are giving more than we are taking but we still remain friends. Why? Because friendship is not about "what's in it for me". Friendship is much more than that!

Diantie's Daily Quote - "If you want an ..."

My theme today again is friendship. We all need friends. Even a cat and a dog learn to become friends at times.

Today's quote is "If you want an accounting of your worth, count your friends".

As an accountant I should already know what this number is for me but I don't. Some people will break friendship down into different categories and I guess that's fine. When it comes to your value, the friends are the ones who decide whether or not you are valuable to them.

Most people will use the analogy that when you are in trouble and need help, that is when you know who your true friends are. This reasoning has some truth to it but in all fairness it depends on which category of friendship you fall into for someone.

So does any of my readers want to volunteer that magical number of your worth?

Diantie's Daily Quote - "One thing everybody..."

How do we decided to make friends with others? Some people have a check list of specific criteria they are looking for before befriending someone. Others have no such list and go with their instincts. How can you tell if someone has a list? It's a secret!

Today's quote is "One thing everybody in the world wants and needs is friendliness". Author William E. Holler.

We all like friendly people and we also like helpful people. We gravitate toward friendly people because as the quotes says we need friendliness.

Have any of us became friends with people that did not appear to be friendly? The answer is yes for most of us.

Diantie's Daily Quote - "A goal is dream..."

How many of us detest deadlines? Probably most of us; unless we are ones setting the deadlines to either send or receive something.

Today's quote is "A goal is a dream with a deadline". Author Napolean Hill.

Realistically, we have put a timeline to a goal otherwise the goal would just be words that anyone can utter. A timeline is one of the things that puts the goal in perspective as to whether or not it is achievable.

We all have goals and it is OK for us to set ourselves deadlines to achieve the goals. More importantly, if that deadline comes and you have not quite achieved your goal, then give yourself another deadline to do so. Be true to yourself!

Diantie's Daily Quote - "Never waste a minute..."

Has anyone ever asked you questions about people you don't care to talk about? It happens to most of us whether we like it or not.

Today quote is "Never waste a minute of your precious life by squandering it thinking about people you do not like". Author unknown.

OK, now I made you think of people you don't like!

I was told that at a certain office there was a jar where money was deposited everytime someone spoke about former employees that they did not like. Why? As the quote says, don't waste your time doing it. As for the money, you pay in cash when you waste your precious time.

But better yet, don't waste your energy on a lost cause. Focus it instead on positive things which you will bring you happiness or a sense of accomplishment.

Diantie's Daily Quote - "The will must be..."

Happy Father's Day to all the Father's out there. I am taking my Father for a drive out on Long Island.

Today's Quote is "The will must be stronger than the skill". Author Muhammed Ali.

This is another great quote for entrepreneurs out there. You must have "the will" to be successful. Most of us have great skills but we lack "the will" which is one of the reasons that we may not succeed. My fix for this is to get a mentor or a partner to support you along the way. We have all heard the saying "behind every successful man/woman, there is a woman/man". This is very true and it is not a sign of weakness!

A special happy father's day to all the fathers that participated in the "Race Against Prostate Cancer" today in Central Park. As an American Cancer Society Volunteer, I could not be there to cheer you on, but my fellow volunteers were. My cheering day was last Wednesday at "Cat Hill" in Central Park for the Chase Corporate Challenge. Look for us at other events with our Red Cow Bells.

Diantie's Daily Quote - "All I ask for is an ..."

If you had more money than you need, what would you do with it or more importantly, what would the money do for you?

Today quote is "All I ask for is an opportunity to prove that money does not buy happiness". Author Unknown.

Some people will say "yes" money does buy happiness; others will say no.

A perfect example of money does not buy happiness is the wealthy couple doing through a divorce and fighting over who gets the cat or the dog.

Money does make a difference in the way we live our lives; but does it makes us happy? It may provide temporary happiness but certainly not long term.

Another example is people who win the lottery. Ask them what happen to their lives after winning the money?

Most of us have gone to state parks on weekends and notice the various families and groups of people having a picnic in the park. We don't see a display of wealth there instead what we usually see is a group of happy people having a wonderful time.

Don't buy happiness for yourself; use the money to buy something for others and make them happy!

Diantie's Daily Quote "Always walk through life..."

"You learn something everyday". We all have said it to ourselves and to others. I say it all the time including today before I began to write this blog.

Today's quote is "Always walk through life as if you have something new to learn and you will". Author Vernon Howard.

Last weekend I was playing with my little nephew and we could not find a ball so I came up with a substitute one. Earlier in the day, I had given him a promotional pencil which he was holding on to. As I kicked my "ball" back and forth to my nephew, I was observing his actions. He figured out that it was easier for him to use the pencil to send the "ball" back to me than it was to use his feet. I was amazed. My nephew is not quite two years old but he watches and he learns.

I hope I learn something everyday!

Diantie's Daily Quote - "Learn to listen..."

How many times have we heard or said the words "you don't listen". Countless! How about "you don't listen to me"? I am scolded so many times for this.

Today's quote is "Learn to listen. Opportunity could be knocking at your door very softly." Author Unknown.

In this busy world we live in today, we all multi-task, and sometimes, we don't listen as carefully as we should. A few weeks ago, there was a fire drill at my office. Information was given as to what to do etc and afterwards questions were asked. During the session, there was someone busy checking messages on a blackberry. When the questions were asked, this person was able to answer all the questions correctly while the others present were silent. The power of listening!.

Listening is a skill that we can all learn to develop. It's hard for some people to listen to others but for those that have done the listening, opportunities were found from which they benefited.

Diantie's Daily Quote - "Laugh as much..."

Laughter was one of the topics of my previous blogs but the more the merrier.

Today's quote is "Laugh as much as you breathe and love as long as you live". Author unknown.

This quote reminds me of the Laughing Cow Cheese commercial's tagline "Have you laughed today". Yes, I have laughed today and I am sure I will laugh again before the day is over.

How about "Love as long as you live"? As a positive person, I have to agree with this. It's hard not to love and yet be happy in your life.

Diantie's Daily Quote - Your real influence..."

At times we hear the words "high maintenance" and generally we associate those words with a person that always look polish.

Today's quote is "Your real influence is measured by your treatment of yourself". Author A. Bronson Alcott.

How do we treat ourselves? Do we buy ourselves expensive items? Do we eat and drink healthy foods? Do we exercise?

We often hear the words "Dress for Success" and "Dress for the Part". Why? Because there are certain expectations attached to way we dress.

Can we influence people by our appearance? Yes, it happens all the time.

Diantie's Daily Quote - "Put your future ..."

Now that the weekend is over and other chores are out of the way, I can get back to my quotes.

Today's quote is "Put your future in good hands - your own". Author unknown.

That's great advice but sometimes we do not get to decide our future as it is decided for us by others. Many teenagers have said that they selected a major in college because it was their parents' choice.

As adults we are responsible for our future but at times some of us depend on others for financial support so we have to "go with the flow".

Diantie's Daily Quote - "The crowd said..."

Now I am back on track with my quotes but instead I will write a quotation.

Today's quote is "The crowd said that they could taste the love in your food". Spoken by Bob Tuschmann of "The Next Food Network Star" tonight, Sunday June 13, 2010, when describing the food prepared by Aarti Sequeira.

Remember a while back I talked about the secret ingredient in food was "Love"? Well, I guess "Love" is still a powerful word when it comes to food.

Diantie's Daily Quote - "The best time..."

My goal of writing a quote on this blog everyday for a year came to a halt yesterday as I was not able to get to the computer to do it. So, today I will write two quotes. I don't write the quotes ahead of time and automatically have them published; that's easy and not the route I want to take.

The quote for yesterday is "The best time to make friends is before you need them". Author Ethel Barrymore.

That's true but I feel that you should make friends regardless to whether or not you may need them in the future. No one likes a person that befriended them because of an ulterior motive.

There are lots a good people out there; look carefully and you will find true friends.

Diantie's Daily Quotes - "No act of kindness..."

In keeping with the charity theme, this quote is simple and to the point.

Today's quote is "No act of kindness, not matter how small, is ever wasted. Author Aesop.

Very true. Not much I could add to that. In every act of kindness, someone gets a benefit at the moment in time.

Did I perform an act of kindness today? Not yet; the day is not over but yesterday I certainly did. The fund raiser was good and I am happy that I was able to help the charity.

Diantie's Daily Quote - "We get to make ..."

Now I trying to find other themes to write about so the quotes will vary depending on what I find out there.

Today's quote is "We get to make a living; we give to make a life". Author (Sir) Winston Churchill.

One of the reasons people give to charity is because they expect that a life will be changed by the donation that is given. I support many charities by donating cash and my services and it is a wonderful experience. One of the charities I volunteer for transforms the lives of children who have a certain birth defect. Another charity transforms the lives of adults. Actually tonight I will volunteering for this charity.

My point of view is yes, I do get to make a living, but I should also give of myself to help others.

Diantie's Daily Quote - "The difference between..."

Some of us may view this quote as a form of experience.

Today's quote is "The difference between school and life? In school, you're taught a lesson then given a test. In life, you're given a test that teaches you a lesson". Author Tom Bodett.

We can all relate to being given tests that teaches us lessons. Some of us may have had one too many test that we did not want to take but nevertheless had to deal with it . The question now is were we really taught a lesson from those tests given to us? Some people will say yes, others will say no.

I need to continue taking my lessons for the tests that I will be given for my CPE classes!

Diantie's Daily Quote - "It is the mark of an ..."

Most of us have had to do deal with this quote at some time or another.

Today's quote is "It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it". Author Aristotle.

How many times has some one tried to sell you something that you did not want? Lots, I sure. Many of us have had to listen to salespeople give us their pitch, acknowledge that we heard and understood what was being said to us, and then let that person know that we were not interested in what was being offered for sale to us. This is just one example of entertaining a thought without accepting it.

I have not had the time to research other quotes, but I hope to find some inspiring ones soon.

Diantie's Daily Quote - "The reward of a thing ..."

For those of us who expect a reward for a good deed, this quote is for you.

Today's quote is "The reward of a thing well done is to have done it". Author Ralph Waldo Emerson.

This sounds like how I feel now that I am getting my cleaning project under control. How many times have we completed a task and felt really good after it was done? Lots! Better yet, how many times have we done something to help out some one else and that person was very grateful for the help? Lots too! So, as the quote says, the reward is to have done it.

Diantie's Daily Quote - "Think like a Queen..."

I once mentioned that my nickname means "I prepare" so in high school the pressure was on me to always be prepared.

Today's quote is "Think like a Queen. A Queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another stepping stone to greatness. Author Oprah Winfrey.

Wow! Can I just have the "greatness" and skip the failure part for now? So now I have to learn to 'think like a Queen"! This is a another goal that I have to achieve. I believe I can manage that but I will also need a staff to help me out.

Oprah is a Queen and more than that, and yes, we all want a part of her greatness.

Diantie's Daily Quote - "Wisdom is knowing..."

It is steaming hot in New York City and not a good day for me to be wondering around outside. My task for the next week is to find an appropriate quote to write about the Spelling Bee. The cleaning is still happening, but not today, and my room is beginning to look familiar.

Today's quote is "Wisdom is knowing when to speak your mind and when to mind your speech". Author Evangel.

Most people will agree with this quote and I am sure have many stories to share about instances when they put "Wisdom" first over "Speech".

In a nut shell, most people will speak their minds; but it's those touchy situations where we are hesitant to speak up especially if speaking up will hurt some one's feelings.

Diantie's Daily Quote - "What I'm looking for..."

Busy day today and almost forgot to write this quote and now I am watching the Scripps Spelling Bee.

Today's quote is "What I'm looking for is a blessing that's not in disguise". Author Kitty O'Neill Collins.

Yes, I want a blessing that's not in disguise too! So where can I place my order and who is going to fulfill it and when is it going to be delivered to me?

In all honesty, I'm sure many of my readers have received some form of blessing that was not in disguise and knew it when it happen.

Have I received a blessing and knew it right away? Yes! too many to discuss and truly grateful too.

Diantie's Daily Quote - "A Successful Person..."

Yet another quote about success.

Today's quote is "A successful person is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks that others throw at him or her". Author David Brinkley.

This is an interesting quote as most of us can tell a story about this happening to us or someone else.

Some people make negative remarks about my cooking that is why I never cook to feed the public. Until one day I decided that I would turn the tables and volunteer to cook for a few hundred people by myself. My sister helped me with preparing the vegetables but I did the cooking. Did my food taste good? I stood by as the food was being served and watch the crowd reject other dishes in favor of mine but I kept quiet. How did I know whether or not I did a good job? The crowd came back for seconds. Now I am more than confident that I can cook at least one good meal!

Diantie's Daily Quote - "You Cannot Plough..."

This quote is for people who have great ideas but are hesitant to put their ideas into action.

Today's quote is "You cannot plough a field by turning it over in your mind". Author unknown.

While having lunch with my friend , she happen to mention that she works with people that have many great ideas but they don't put these ideas into action plans. What a coincidence that I had already chosen my quote to write about.

It is difficult for some people to plough a field in real life. People who take the initiative to start a business or invent something are much more respected today given the current economic environment than in booming times.

If you have an idea or something that needs to get done, as Nike says "Just do it".

Diantie's Daily Quote - "Passion is the trigger..."

More success quotes.

Today's quote is "Passion is the trigger of success". Author unknown.

Passion is a strong word and it has a few meanings, but on a positive note, it is one of the triggers of success.

We have all heard people talk about how passionate they are about something. It is this drive and motivation that we need in order to be successful.
